چکیده

This report investigates the feasibility of applying Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) techniques to a vector finite element formulation for the wave equation in three dimensions. Possible error estimators are considered first. Next, approaches for refining tetrahedral elements are reviewed. AMR capabilities within the Nevada framework are then evaluated. We summarize our conclusions on the feasibility of AMR for time-domain vector finite elements and identify a path forward.

Multilevel Methods in Electromagnetics 1 Adaptivity in Space and Time for Magnetoquasistatics 1 )

This paper addresses fully space-time adaptive magnetic field computations. We describe an adaptive Whitney finite element method for solving the magnetoquasistatic formulation of Maxwell’s equations on unstructured 3D tetrahedral grids. Spatial mesh refinement and coarsening are based on hierarchical error estimators especially designed for combining tetrahedral H(curl)-conforming edge element...

Tracking Adaptive Moving Mesh Refinements in 3D Curved Domains for Large-Scale Higher Order Finite Element Simulations

When applying higher order finite elements to curved 3D domains in largescale accelerator simulations, complexities that arise include needing valid curved finite elements and the capability to track the movement of mesh refinement in the critical domains. This paper presents a procedure which combines Bézier mesh curving and size driven mesh adaptation technologies to address those requirement...

Adaptive Multiresolution Antenna Modeling Using Hierarchical Mixed-Order Tangential Vector Finite Elements

Hierarchical mixed-order tangential vector finite elements (TVFEs) for tetrahedra are attractive for accurate and efficient finite element or hybrid finite element/boundary integral (FE/BI) simulation of complicated electromagnetic problems. They provide versatility in the geometrical modeling of physical structures, guarantee solutions free of spurious modes, and allow a local increase of reso...

Convergence of Mimetic Finite Difference Method for Diffusion Problems on Polyhedral Meshes

The main goal of this paper is to establish the convergence of mimetic discretizations of the firstorder system that describes linear stationary diffusion on general polyhedral meshes. The main idea of the mimetic finite difference (MFD) method is to mimic the underlying properties of the original continuum differential operators, e.g. conservation laws, solution symmetries, and the fundamental...
